Introduction
The purpose of this site is to bring together various resources, on the web and elsewhere, pertaining to The Heart Sutra: translations, commentaries, discussion forums, chants, and practices.
What is The Heart Sutra?
The Heart Sutra is the shortest presentation of the practice of the perfection of wisdom (prajnaparamita). It is so concise and so direct that it has an almost enigmatic quality. Yet it is one of the central texts of Mahayana Buddhism and is chanted daily in temples, monasteries, and centers around the world.
It has been the subject of countless commentaries, in many languages, ancient and modern. Some are academic and logical, others are poetic and personal. This sutra has challenged and inspired numerous spiritual teachers, artists, poets, and scholars over the centuries.
Here, we gather and bring together as much of this heritage as possible.
